The Prime Minister is following up on the work files of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement and Medical Supply

Mostafa Madbouly met with Major General Doctor Bahaa El-Din Zeidan, head of the Egyptian Authority for Unified Procurement, Medical Supply and Medical Technology, and the Department of Medical Technology, to review the authority’s work files and efforts during the last period, especially with regard to taking the necessary measures to confront the Corona virus epidemic.

Major General Doctor Bahaa El Din Zeidan began the meeting by reviewing the ongoing preparations for organizing the healthcare exhibition and conference in Africa and the Middle East, which Egypt will host next year, and it is planned that it will be an expanded forum that brings together Egyptian, Arab and international companies in the field of medicine, devices and medical supplies, with the official authorities based on The health and investment file in the African and regional departments, to present investment opportunities in this vital field, which is related to the health of peoples and enhances the ability of countries to confront epidemics.

The head of the Egyptian Unified Procurement Authority presented the most prominent efforts that the authority achieved during the fiscal year 2020/2021, pointing out that, in the context of providing coronavirus vaccines, it was able to contract 2 million doses of the Chinese Sinofarm vaccine, and one million doses of the Chinese Sinovac vaccine, as well as 50 A thousand doses of the English AstraZeneca vaccine, in addition to contracting 20 million doses of the American Johnson & Johnson vaccine, which will begin to be supplied after two weeks, and 20 million doses of the Russian Sputnik vaccine, the procedures for supplying the first batches of it are being completed, in addition to contracting for 2.75 million doses. Of the seasonal influenza vaccine with four strains, which was made available by the authority for the first time in Egypt.

Major General Doctor Bahaa El-Din Zeidan added that the authority has agreed with one of the largest international companies in the field of collecting and manufacturing plasma derivatives, and accordingly a partnership contract was signed with the National Service Projects Organization to localize the plasma derivatives industry inside Egypt, noting that several sites have been agreed to establish collection centers The necessary steps are taken to implement the fractionation and purification plant, the main store for the plasma and the final products for this project, and work is being done to determine the human capabilities required for its processing, to provide all the required applications and technological systems, and to prepare the legislative framework regulating the work of these centers.

He stressed that work has also begun on the implementation of the strategic warehouses project, emphasizing the importance of having a free zone inside those stores to attract international companies so that these strategic warehouses are an essential gathering point in the Middle East for all international companies.

The head of the Egyptian Unified Procurement Authority also presented the position of implementing the industrial complex project for the manufacture and assembly of prosthetic limbs and prosthetic devices, pointing to the measures taken by the authority in order to gain the confidence of international companies to increase opportunities for cooperation and investment through this project, stressing that meetings were held with 7 leading companies. In the field of manufacturing prosthetic limbs, prosthetic devices, and movement aids to discuss ways of cooperation, a vision was drawn for cooperation, with an emphasis on helping Egypt launch wheelchair production lines, providing technology for manufacturing assembly machines and installing prosthetic limbs, as well as benefiting from Egypt’s export capabilities. to neighboring countries, and finding opportunities to train cadres in this field. The final vision of the main and subsidiary workshops and the rest of the components of this project were also discussed.

In terms of developing the authority’s work and extending cooperation with various institutions, Major General Doctor Bahaa El-Din Zeidan explained that coordination has been made with the National Institute for Health and Excellence and the Swedish Agency for Medical Technology Assessment, to develop the capabilities of the technology management in the authority, allowing optimal planning of needs, and the authority has been included Within the World Bank, the French Development Agency, and the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, as an entity specialized in the central management of medical supplies and devices on behalf of various government agencies.

The head of the authority added that it had coordinated with the World Health Organization to support cooperation with the medical technology department in the authority to provide advanced medical technology to the Egyptian patient, and to contribute to comprehensive health coverage, as well as to achieve the highest use of resources, and an electronic system was launched that had an impact on the digitization of the procurement process. And supply, where the largest number of suppliers were registered on that system, pointing out that the total supply requests on the system amounted to about 78,000 requests, including about 40,000 requests for the supply of medicines, and 26,000 requests for the supply of medical supplies, and the authority also paid great attention to paying companies’ dues. supplied.
