The future of Egypt in the “New Delta” – trends

With a simple calculation, we find that the area of the old agricultural land in Egypt is about 6.1 million acres distributed in the Delta and Upper Egypt, while the area of land expected to be cultivated in the “New Delta” is approximately one and a half million acres, that is, between 30 and 35% of the The area of the ancient delta of 3.5 million acres.

The “New Delta” is a new giant national project, which is being implemented on the ground very seriously and with accelerated steps. Its signs have come to reality through the “Future of Egypt” project, which President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi recently visited, and that it inspected the areas that have been reclaimed and cultivated as it is a first stage, It amounted to about 200 thousand acres.

The advantage of the New Delta project is that it is located near the old delta in the governorates of Lower Egypt, and it will contribute to alleviating the unreasonable congestion in the old delta, as it will provide opportunities for the establishment of residential, urban and industrial complexes, which contribute to providing millions of job opportunities, as it comes within the framework of optimal utilization To water sources.

As for the one and a half million acres project, it is the project known in the media in the Egyptian countryside, and it belongs to the Egyptian Countryside Development Company, which reclaims and cultivates approximately one and a half million feddans in the regions of West Minya, East Owainat, Farafra, Siwa, New Valley, and other areas .

As for the New Delta project, it is a completely different project from the previous two projects, and includes about one and a half million acres, and is located near the Dabaa axis, with the aim of achieving food security and for export, and aims to focus on the cultivation of wheat, legumes, vegetables and fruits, to meet the requirements and needs of Egypt in terms of food commodities, especially after That the Corona pandemic demonstrated the necessity of self-reliance in providing food needs and requirements without the need for import.

Research teams, in which dozens of specialized professors from the Faculties of Agriculture, members of the Agricultural Research Centers and Desert Researches conducted the required research studies, took samples of soil and ground water, in addition to analyzing the proportions of salts, acidity, lime and alkalinity, and the results were promising that the reclamation and cultivation of nearly One and a half million acres in that area.

These projects will be the gigantic national project for the New Delta, and thus the New Delta can absorb the same proportion of the population, in addition to its ability to absorb industrial production projects related to agricultural production, and animal, poultry and dairy production projects.

The Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation in Egypt, Mr. Al-Qusayr, confirms that the sources of irrigation are unconventional in all new land reclamation projects, starting with the one and a half million feddans project, which depends on groundwater, and passing through the North and Central Sinai Development Project, which is based on the two largest treatment plants. Wastewater is the Al-Mahsamah plant, which has a capacity of about two million cubic meters per day, in addition to the Bahr Al-Baqar water plant, which is the largest treatment water plant in the world with a capacity of 5.6 million cubic meters of water per day.

As for the New Delta project, it is also based on relying on groundwater in those areas, which have been scientifically proven to have underground water suitable for cultivation, in addition to establishing a treatment plant for agricultural drainage near the Hammam area, at a cost of EGP 60 billion to be used in the irrigation of the rest of the areas.

The gigantic national project, the “new delta”, its signs appear to exist, and work is being done on it around the clock, and the workers in it race to achieve the dream, and the new delta appears parallel to the old delta, in preparation for receiving millions of Egyptians to start their new life there, away from the problems of overcrowding and congestion. And all the diseases of the ancient delta.
