Shoukry: Egypt appreciates Greece’s ratification of the founding charter of the Gas Forum

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry expressed Egypt’s appreciation for Greece’s ratification of the founding charter of the Eastern Mediterranean Gas Forum, which will enter into force from March 2021.

This came during a meeting that Shoukry held today, Wednesday, during his current visit to the Greek capital, Athens, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece Nikos Dendias, to consult on bilateral relations as well as a number of regional files of interest to both sides within the framework of preparing for a meeting hosted by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Greece tomorrow with the participation of Minister Shoukry and the ministers of a number of Arab and European countries.

Ambassador Ahmed Hafez, the official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the two ministers discussed ways to develop bilateral relations in line with what was agreed upon during the official visit of the President of the Republic to Greece in November 2020, and they also discussed supporting the flow of mutual investments between the two countries and overcoming obstacles that may face their companies.

The spokesman added that the two ministers discussed developing cooperation between the two countries in the field of energy.

With regard to the regional files, the official spokesperson said that Shukri and Dendias expressed their appreciation for the continuous political consultation at various levels to coordinate positions regarding the successive developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, and they consulted on the results of the meeting that will be held tomorrow in Athens, in the presence of a number of European and Arab countries.

Shoukry also expressed his appreciation for the cooperation of Greece and Minister Dendias in strengthening European relations with Egypt and his constant emphasis on the importance of the political weight of Egypt.

Hafez indicated that the two sides agreed at the end of the meeting to continue consultations and coordination in light of the rapid events in the region.
