Egyptians are still living in the second wave of the emerging corona virus (Covid-19) and reassuring that the number of infected people is declining daily, until the World Health Organization announced the entry of some countries to the third wave of the virus, but this time we enter a new wave in light of the availability of vaccines to prevent it, And its positive progress recently, so what are the possible scenarios for us to enter the third wave and confront the virus again?
According to Dr. Magdy Badran, a member of the Egyptian Society of Allergy and Immunology, “Covid-19” may end when about 70% of the world’s population is vaccinated against the virus, but the use of vaccines does not mean reaching “zero Covid”, as vaccines will not be able to control the virus on their own. Ayman Al-Sayed Salem, professor and head of the chest department at Qasr Al-Aini, stressed the need to follow the same steps for any patient in the third wave, especially controlling the level of blood sugar, preventing him from any excessive effort, and eating a balanced diet, especially protein.
Dr. Magdy Badran told “Your Health in the World” that the behaviors adopted by individuals and the decisions taken by governments determine the course of the Corona pandemic, as all the factors that led to the outbreak of the virus are still present, and climate changes allow Corona and other respiratory viruses to spread at least in Autumn and winter, and vaccinations will not cover 70% of people until we dream of herd immunity, in addition to that the acquired immunity from infection is short-lived, which means that the virus, even if it recedes, will remain and return seasonally.
Badran outlined 3 expected scenarios for the third wave in Egypt, the first of which is: The second wave recedes next April, in the event that citizens continue to cooperate with government efforts and implement preventive measures, and 70% of them get vaccinated, and the second is: Entering the clutches of a third wave next April For the citizens ’rebellion to continue with preventive measures and not taking vaccination, and the virus continues to spread, and the third and last is: the receding of the second wave, which makes citizens go to celebrate next April, coinciding with the advent of the holy month of Ramadan, and neglecting preventive measures, which contributes to the return of the spread The virus, with banquets and visits, let us clash with the third wave, which controls the “citizen behavior” at its climax.
Badran advised to re-apply the precautionary steps and add some steps to them to prevent or avoid the third wave, which are:
1- Using the muzzle when dealing with family members if there is an infection or its possibility.
2- Disinfection of hands with soap and water or medical disinfectants, with social distancing in elevators, work or the street. 3- Patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis must be regular in taking medication, and bring extended sprays to the people when they go out on the street. 4- Optimism and lack of tension, in order to preserve immunity. 5- Good nutrition to enhance immunity, and drink water in abundance, as thirst reduces focus and increases sensitivity. 6- Ventilating homes and offices by opening windows and doors 3 times a day. It has actually been proven that ventilation reduces the concentration and presence of “Covid-19” in closed spaces, and that the absence or poor ventilation is a common factor in most cases of infection. 7 – Sleeping early, at least 8 hours, and not staying up late, as sleep enhances memory and immunity. 8- Get 15 minutes of sunshine every morning or in the afternoon. 9- Exercising to enhance immunity and provide more oxygen and nutrition to the brain, and if this is not possible, then walking is one of the best types of sport, and there is a relationship between the number of walking steps and the prevention of diseases of the age. 10- Quadrivalent influenza vaccination, especially the elderly, those with chronic diseases, pregnant women, and medical personnel. 11- The need to vaccinate the elderly and people with chronic diseases with the Corona vaccine, which is available free of charge to them. 12- Treating any injured person in the family under the supervision of a specialist, and not relying on internet or friends’ prescriptions.
For his part, Dr. Ayman El-Sayed Salem, professor of chest at Kasr El-Ainy, stressed the need to control the blood sugar level of the Corona sufferer, to help speed recovery, as its rise delays the recovery from infection, and may contribute to the deterioration of the situation by the occurrence of infection from other bacterial microbes, Warning the “Covid-19” patient from any high effort, while adhering to moderate activity in mild cases.
Salem advised adhering to a balanced diet that contains all the nutrients, including proteins, carbohydrates, fats, salts, minerals and vitamins, especially protein, as it is the main component of the immune system, and thus contributes to the speed of recovery.
He stressed that there are some rumors circulating that we must deny, for example there is no scientific basis to prevent white sugar for a Corona sufferer, unlike diabetics, and cortisone is not permanently prohibited for hypertensive and diabetic patients, as the doctor is obligated to change the treatment to control the levels of sugar and pressure, to prevent any complications, and it is necessary Granting it to the elderly under the supervision of a doctor only, noting that cortisone is used in the treatment of moderate and severe cases of “Covid-19”, and it is not required to be given for mild cases, and the first 10 days of infection are not described as it suppresses the immune system, stressing at the same time the need to prevent Bathing for people with HIV and pneumonia, being a viral pneumonia.
